Warriors fly through the air, skim the water and battle in trees and on rooftops. In Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon the fight scenes become another means of expressing the individual spirits and their conflicts with society and each other. Embark on this journey of a rebel against rationalism seeking love in a martial art world.
Join Anita Chang from the Department of Asian Studies as she discusses Ang Lee's interpretation of a rebel who fell from an imperial status to a bandit's niche, Chang will address the complexity of moral doctrines and will also talk on the highs and lows of the Chinese film industry before and after 1949.
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is a timeless story that takes place in China when spirits and Gods were present in a man’s world. Li Mu Bai decides to give his sword, the Green Destiny to a friend. Soon afterwards the sword is stolen by a masterful martial artist who is later revealed to be a masked female. This sets in motion a series of events that will test the bonds of family, love, duty and sisterhood.
