The University has a duty of care to ensure the responsible supply and consumption of alcohol at events on campus. Event organisers are required to promote practices that will encourage common courtesy and responsible behaviour at events where alcohol is served.
There are four licensed premises on campus where sale or supply of alcohol is allowed:
If your event will have alcohol served and will not be held in a licensed premise, it is recommended that you use a Gold License Caterer to manage the service of drinks. If you will not be using a Gold License Caterer, it is recommended that any person serving alcohol at a public event must hold a current Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) Certificate. Further information is available from the NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing.
Unlicensed premises do not need a liquor licence if guests are invited at no cost to them – ie you are not charging people in any way for liquor.
If you are charging guests for alcohol or enforcing an entry cover charge where the cost of liquor is included in the entry fee, you DO need to apply for a licence through the Licensing Court of NSW.
