Campus Life
The new face of student life at Macquarie - U@MQ
Macquarie University students will have more reasons to stay on campus after their lectures thanks to the new initiatives being launched by U@MQ.
U@MQ is the new organisation that features the University's non-academic services of food and retail, sport and recreation, student groups, child care, and entertainment.
According to U@MQ Business Development Director Philippa Brook, the vision of the organisation is to support the academic excellence of Macquarie by making university more than an academic experience.
"Student engagement is one of the major things we are looking at," explains Brook. "We really want to create more reasons for students to stay on campus and give them an exceptional experience outside the lecture room. We will be creating a new vibe about Macquarie - it's fun, it's vibrant, it's healthy."
- Apart from the change of name the U@MQ building will undergo a revamp in the future with increased seating areas facing the lake and additional food and beverage outlets. Other initiatives include:
- a new range of healthy food choices including gluten free options
- two price points on the majority of items at U@MQ outlets - students and staff can show their card and receive a discount while people from outside the university will pay the 'rack rate'
- vacation care at the Sport and Aquatic Centre
- substantial investment into the development of the childcare centres
- increased lunchtime events across campus to create more engagement
- working to improve the work/life balance of students and staff
The U@MQ brand will be officially launched in the New Year. For further information contact Philippa Brook on (02) 9850 7045.
