Deanne Bird (L) and Gudrun Gisladottir (Principal Supervisor from the University of Iceland) at the Mýrdalsjökull icecap |
After completing her Bachelor of Environmental Science, Macquarie student Deanne Bird was keen to take her research on natural hazards to the next level.
"I wanted to continue my research on volcanically induced glacial outburst floods in Iceland but I did not want to leave Macquarie," says Deanne.
Deanne discovered that she could undertake her PhD with Macquarie and the University of Iceland through a Cotutelle agreement - a double doctorate studied at two universities with supervision from both institutions.
Deanne's studies to date have taken her across the world. "Throughout my degree Macquarie has supported and encouraged my work in New Zealand, Slovenia, Thailand, Switzerland and Iceland. I have been able to network with the top scientists in my field - this is an experience second to none."
