Macquarie University has been awarded a Premier's NSW Export Award for the second time. Winning in the 2007 education category, the award recognises an innovative approach to attracting international students. Macquarie currently has 8,800 international students from over 71 countries.

Macquarie's vision of establishing itself as Australia's leading industry-based research university is one step closer to reality. Cochlear Limited recently announced it will move its global headquarters and principal manufacturing facilities to the University. This physical relationship will become the platform to extend existing research and teaching in audiology, computing, electrical engineering, and cognitive science, said Vice-Chancellor Professor Steven Schwartz.

Associate Professor Kim Hawtrey from the Department of Economics was recently honoured as one of the country's best teachers. Hawtrey was one of just three academics teaching in law, economics and business, and one of just 24 university teachers across all disciplines, to be named as recipients of 2007 Carrick Awards for Teaching Excellence.
