The Bachelor of Media at Macquarie University is a flexible three-year undergraduate degree designed to prepare students for a wide range of jobs in the media industry and beyond.
The program teaches students how to 'think media' - what it is, how it works, why it's important and what it will be in the future.
Students are given the opportunity to explore a wide range of media theory and production options, focusing on one particular media form or mix and matching. They can:
* Write, shoot and produce films for the big screen
* Compose feature stories for publications - print and online
* Design and build websites and create online interactive media
* Design a public relations campaign for a real-life client
* Make a radio show and have it broadcast
"Whatever a student chooses, we'll equip them with the skills they need to work in the 21st century media," says Dr Sherman Young from the Department of Media. "Our lecturers are widely published academics and award-winning media producers with industry experience. Students will be taught by people with knowledge and know-how."
Thanks to a growing internship scheme as well as an association with Macquarie's study abroad program, students have the opportunity to further broaden their horizons. They can spend a semester in a relevant work placement or participate in an international short course in television production or print and online journalism at one of the best journalism colleges in America.
Bachelor of Media graduates work in diverse fields ranging from television to film, magazines to books, PR to advertising, online to radio both locally and internationally.
