
Macquarie University, which currently offers the largest range of European languages in Australia, has added Spanish to its collection of programs. The introduction of Spanish at Macquarie coincides with two new programs with majors in European languages the Bachelor of Business Administration/Bachelor of Arts in European Studies and the Bachelor of International Studies.
An agreement has been signed by Macquarie University and Dalcross Private Hospital for a new private hospital to be built at the University. Construction of the eight-storey, 150-bed 'Macquarie University Hospital' is expected to start in late 2006 and be completed by mid-2008. Dalcross has established an excellent reputation in Australia, specialising in neurosurgery, spinal surgery, vascular surgery and ophthalmology. The hospital will complement Macquarie's existing specialisations including cognitive neuropsychology, audiology, telemedicine, teleradiology and speech therapy.
The world's most eminent experts on the study of Pompeii and Herculanium visited Macquarie University in April for a special Cities of Vesuvius conference designed not only to assist Year 12 students sitting their HSC ancient history exams this year, but also to engage members of the public for whom Pompeii remains a source of intense curiosity.
