Australian training and selection trials for the International Olympiad in Informatics were held at Macquarie University in early April.
The International Olympiad in Informatics is the pinnacle of competition in computer science for high school students around the world. Each country sends a team of four students to participate in nine hours of competition.
To date aspiring senior high school students from across the country have participated in the Australian Informatics Olympiad, The School of Excellence at the ANU in Canberra, the Australian Invitational Informatics Olympiad and the French-Australian Regional Informatics Olympiad.
Eight students from across the country participated in the selection trials at Macquarie. The two students from Sydney, Jarrah Lacko and Xi Chen (pictured above right) both attend James Ruse Agricultural High School.
"All the students that participated in the trials are outstandingly bright young programmers," said Professor Michael Johnson, Director, ICT Innovation Centre at Macquarie. "One of the students is already an Olympiad Gold Medallist."
The school culminated with the final Australian Team Selection Exams. The Australian team will be announced later this month. For further information on the International Olympiad in Olympics visit http://orac.amt.edu.au/
