Global Leadership Program student Michael Cao |
As part of Macquarie's commitment to internationalisation and innovation, the Global Leadership Program (GLP) allows students to enhance their Macquarie degree and develop their potential as global leaders. This optional, extra-curricular program is designed to equip students with leadership skills, cross-cultural understanding and international perspectives and experiences to allow them to pursue a truly international career.
Through the extensive program of study abroad options, volunteering, colloquiums and the distinguished speakers series, graduates are able to demonstrate an understanding of cross-cultural concepts through their own experience.
Fourth year Bachelor of Commerce/Accounting and Bachelor of Applied Finance student Michael Cao has been involved in the GLP for a number of years.
Through the GLP Michael has attended an international youth leadership conference in Prague, completed a short course at Aarhus School of Business in Denmark, and also spent a semester abroad at the Copenhagen Business School. Most recently Michael spent two months at Fudan University in China participating in a Masters program on the role of China in the global economy.
Michael has also taken part in Macquarie's transition program becoming a mentor for first year students and has also volunteered for the Oaktree Foundation.
"The GLP opens doors once you get really involved," says Michael. "It encourages you to take part in things that make the university experience enjoyable such as exchange, personal development and volunteering and I believe it also gives you more initiative."
