Courses at Macquarie
Engineering comes to Macquarie
The high-tech, fast-growing fields of telecommunications, computing and electronics need engineers to drive the future of their products and services. To meet the needs of industry, Macquarie University has developed a suite of engineering degrees.
"Our engineering programs focus on equipping students with the skills and experience to enable them to push boundaries," says Professor Stephen Thurgate, Dean of the Division of Information and Communication Sciences. "All the degrees feature a strong practical focus - exactly what employers and students are looking for."
Seven engineering degrees feature in the new program commencing in 2008. Students are able to choose from:
- Computer Engineering
- Electronics Engineering
- Instrumentation and Control Engineering
- Photonics Engineering
- Software Engineering
- Telecommunications Engineering
- Wireless Engineering - which is unique to Macquarie
Macquarie's modern laboratories will provide cutting-edge resources for projects and research and are well equipped to support the lecture and tutorial program. Students will develop a capacity for analytical and critical thinking, creativity, good communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively on complex systems and tasks.
The industry placement program, which is unique to Macquarie, guarantees engineering students six months of experience working with industry leaders such as Optus and Microsoft.
"The Engineering program at Macquarie University is challenging, flexible and provides an internationally recognised professional accreditation," says Thurgate. "Our engineering students will enjoy a supportive academic environment with close links to nearby industries providing the foundation for exciting career opportunities."
