
According to a report published in The Sydney Morning Herald (21/2/07), Macquarie University has the highest first year student retention rate in Australia. Statistics collected for the Learning and Teaching Performance Fund reveal that Macquarie retains 86.43 per cent of students.
To meet the needs of industry, Macquarie University has developed a suite of engineering degrees to service the fast growing fields of telecommunications, computing and electronics. From 2008 study options will be available in computer engineering, electronics engineering, instrumentation and control engineering, photonics engineering, software engineering, wireless engineering and telecommunications engineering.

Climate change champion and Macquarie University academic Professor Tim Flannery was recently named 2007 Australian of the Year.
Prime Minister Howard said Flannery had helped millions of Australians better appreciate and understand the environment.

O-Week 2007
The 2007 academic year at Macquarie University is off to a great start following the annual O-Week celebrations.
O-Week is a time for first year students to commence a new chapter in their lives, academically and socially. It’s also a fun time for returning students with a range of entertainment across the week.
Over 100 market stalls showcased the wide variety of services, lifestyle and leisure activities the University has to offer.

erformances from Crash Symphony, Acoustic Lounge, The Cops as well as DJs Archie, Studio One, Tantric and Shamozzle. Students were able to participate in a giant horizontal bungee competition as well take part in backyard cricket, soccer and volleyball.
O-Week festivities were capped off with a SAM Beach Party on Thursday 1 March followed by a Friday Recovery Party with special guests Merrick and Rosso.
