The brief

When you are asked to organise an event, it is beneficial to prepare an event brief.

The event brief should include:

  1. Aims and objectives of the event
  2. Who is involved in the event (internal stakeholders such as staff, committees, speakers, audience or guests, external stakeholders such as media and politicians)
  3. Likely size and composition of the audience
  4. When and where the event will be held
  5. Available funding and/or anticipated revenue
  6. Key elements of a marketing and promotions strategy if required
  7. Issues for special consideration (security, VIPs, dietary needs, wet weather contingency plans etc).

The brief should also confirm the person responsible for the planning process and coordination of the event on the day.
