Events Manual
Disability
When organising an event on campus, consideration must be given to access requirements for people with disabilities.
The following guidelines are provided to assist you in accommodating people with disabilities:
- When advertising your event, information needs to be accessible. For example, electronic event information needs to be provided in Word or RTF format to assist people with vision disabilities
- Event information on the University website should comply with World Wide Web accessibility consortium guidelines
- Include a statement in promotional materials or invitations that request people to identify any special requirements in advance
- Consider the accessibility of your venue, including the proximity of accessible parking and the availability of accessible toilets. See the Office of Facilities Management Disabled Parking Map
- Consider whether an Auslan interpreting service is required. This service is available through the Equity Support Unit of the Support Services Unit on a fee-for-service basis
- Ensure there is adequate signage indicating disability assistance (ie accessible parking, toilet facilities, wheelchair access, etc).
Event organisers are encouraged to liaise with the University’s Equity Support Unit for further information and advice regarding appropriate support and assistance.
