Purpose of the Events Manual

This Events Manual has been compiled as a guide for Macquarie University staff who organise events for their offices, units, departments and divisions.

The function of the Events Manual is to provide:

  1. Supporting information for you to successfully plan and manage events
  2. Background information that will enhance your understanding of the broader University requirements for conducting events
  3. Information and event protocol guidelines that must be considered when planning University events
  4. Details, websites and contacts University-wide that will assist you in organising events.

The Manual is designed for Macquarie University events that do not involve students. Points are intended as a generic guide only and should be adapted according to each specific event.

Background

The University’s ‘Macquarie @ 50’ document outlines Macquarie’s ambitious goal to become, by age 50, among the top eight research universities in Australia and one of the top 200 in the world.

The delivery of high quality, professional events is essential for Macquarie to project the image of an international research university. Events such as public lectures, launches, conferences, lunches, gala dinners, centre openings and seminars showcase Macquarie to its external stakeholders. When professionally organised with a cohesive approach, events contribute to portraying one voice and one image for the University.

We would like to acknowledge the University of Melbourne for granting permission to adapt aspects of their Events Manual for use at Macquarie University.
